The glass pavilion is outstanding in the surroundings, but not over the top and fits perfectly in this cultivated agricultural region. The volume extends in the basement with an open view into the backyard. There are two folded zinc roofs, each made of several solid triangles. The horizontal lines are created by the visually floating pergola and the natural stone terrace plate that is part of both the interior and exterior of the villa. The villa has an open character thanks to the glass in between the roof and the floors. Using the 3D capabilities of SCIA Engineer, the construction of the zinc folded roofs could be visualized and calculated. The first floor and the interior walls are not part of the construction; it has an open loft layout. The challenge was to design slim columns to keep the transparency of the pavilion. The basement is anchored to the soil to prevent drifting. SCIA Engineer made it possible to calculate the upward forces resulting from water pressure and to manage the distortions.
