98 In the context of the Brabo 2 masterplan of Antwerp the Londen bridge has to be replaced by a new bridge. The drawbridge has a span of 21.27 m, a width of 30.70 m and a total weight of 1,100 t (incl. the equipment and ballast). The deck consists of 5 separate parts, connected by 2 transverse end beams. Each part is a closed tube with an orthotropic deck. The bridge deck has a double lane for tram and first aid services in the middle. On both sides there is a lane for road traffic and a lane for cyclists and pedestrians. The gaps between the lanes and under the bridge give an open impression, a total weight reduction and less wind pressure in open position. The bridge is balanced by ballast situated at the back of two tubular peak arms (38.6 m) each supported by tubular towers (15 m). The complete 3D-model was formed with bars, even the orthotropic deck plate was divided into longitudinal and cross girders with an equivalent stiffness and adopted mass. The correct modelling of the mass was very important because of the balancing of the bridge. The possibility to create different states of the bridge in one model was a big advantage for the erection engineering. With the automatic steel code check (EC) in SCIA Engineer it was possible to check all members in all their states. The input of complex forms for the arms and towers was possible thanks to the use of graphical sections with different material properties.
