100 ARCHITECT Nikola Miletić OWNER Republic of Kosovo GENERAL CONTRACTOR Bechtel-Enka CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 10/2016 - 10/2017 The B2 viaduct is a slab bridge with five 40 m long spans on a highway in the Republic of Kosovo. Structurally speaking, the bridge structure is simply supported, and is connected above supports through the top slab to form an integral continuity. Piers are founded on pile caps with the height of the piles varying from 18 m near abutments to 54 m in the middle of the bridge. The seismic activity in the region had to be taken into account and it was quite challenging to design the foundations and piers in the combination with poor soil characteristics. Modelling of all mobile loads according to the Eurocodes in both global and local models was easy thanks to SCIA Engineer’s capabilities. For the prestressed U girder, the construction stage analysis with a staged cross-section combined with prestressing and practical reinforcement was really important. Export of pictures was invaluable for an impressive presentation of results.
