105 INTAKE WATER IRRIGATION SYSTEM Alentejo , Por tugal The intake for the Póvoa-Moura irrigation system in Alentejo, Portugal, is a big concrete structure with the capacity of 4000 l/s located close to Alqueva lake. The load bearing structure is mainly composed of laminar reinforced concrete elements casted in-situ. As a major part of the structure is under the ground, it is subject to earth and water pressure. The hydrostatic uplift of the structure had to be prevented, and the stresses in the structure are high when the interior is without water. SCIA Engineer was used to create a 3D analysis model and to perform finite elements analysis. The SCIA Engineer non-linear analysis functionality was used to obtain the most accurate results for the foundation slab as well as the pressure between the structure and the soil. Internal forces and displacements were calculated, and the reinforcement was inputted in order to check the ultimate and serviceability limit states according to Eurocode 2.
