107 NEW METRO STATION Lausanne , Swi tzer land The new metro station in “Place de l’Europe” at the city centre of Lausanne reaches at its lowest point the maximum depth of 10 m. The global space created for this metro station has a total length of 50 m and a total width of 32 m. The external walls of the station are created by secant pile walls that allow to remove the existing soil while permitting a normal traffic of vehicles and pedestrians on the surface. The new metro station is connected to the existing one, so different materials were used in the model to represent the old and new concrete (also for the steel elements of the cantilever beam and the catwalk). Part of the structure leans on an existing deep gallery that is used to diverse the river and that has to be partially renewed. A slender catwalk is used to span the two metro railways. Different surface bearings were used in order to represent the two different types of soil material and border bearings were also used in order to represent the pile walls. All these bearings are non-linear (only compression). The dynamic features were used to analyse the eigenfrequencies of the catwalk’s steel structure, in order to avoid issues related to its vibrations.
