111 MOVABLE FOOTBRIDGE ACROS THE IJZER Nieuwpoor t , Belgium The movable footbridge is a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the Yser river and providing access from a new city parts to the city-centre of Nieuwpoort. The structure consists of a movable part and a fixed part. The movable part is a cable-stayed bridge which turns 90° around its vertical axis. This part is in total 60 m long and the pylon is 23 m high. The bridge deck is a closed structure composed of steel plates. The fixed part is a steel bridge with the same structure as the deck of the movable part and is founded on tube piles. The movable part is fixed to a chain which moves along a part of the fixed bridge. We used SCIA Engineer to determine the thickness of the plates and stiffeners and to evaluate the reactions in the supports. The stability of the bridge had been checked in every situation and the maximum reactions in the central axis had to be minimized. Therefore, non-linear supports and absences came in handy. In addition, we simulated the pre-stressing of the cables by applying a temperature-load on the cables. And at last, we made the dynamic analysis of the bridge exposed to traffic loads.
