CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 2016 -2018 The existing pipe rack is extended vertically by an additional pipe layer to enhance the industrial capacity to produce more high-end quality products. To minimize construction time and on-site labour, the additional layer is prefabricated and pre-assembled at a module yard, shipped to the site by barge, transported by SPMTs. Finally, this layer shall be lifted and connected to the top of the existing structure. The existing pipe rack was built in the early 1980s and has been modified several times over the years. Due to the increased height of the additional layer, the existing structure is exposed to greater wind loads. Since the pipe rack shall be a part of an important interconnecting link between multiple units, the structure was categorized as the highest class of economic failure or losses. SCIA Engineering was used to check the existing structure and foundation as well as to calculate the new pre-assembled layer for all combinations of transportation, erection and operating conditions. To meet strength requirements and displacement criteria, the existing structure is strengthened in a very effective and efficient way. This resulted in a relatively low budget and significant time saving , which both contributed to the client’s satisfaction.
