139 ARCHITECT Mason Clark Associetes OWNER Yorkshire greens ltd GENERAL CONTRACTOR The Ashcourt Group CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 12/2017 - 04/2019 A cooperative of 40 farmers from Yorkshire joined forces with a top Belgian frozen food company and a local Bio-energy plant to build a new location. In the middle of the fields of pea cultivation, a new plant was built to freeze the vegetables very quickly immediately after harvesting. The new site will be fully powered by sustainable renewable energy. All vegetable waste produced by the peas will be converted into renewable energy after fermentation. The speed of assembly was a priority. The plant was mounted during the winter period. A steel structure was a quick choice, also for the machine rooms. The entire structure of the new site represents a total surface of 14,270 m² and 800 tonnes of S235 steel. Large trussed spans were necessary as columns in the building were not desired. The half-timbered structures in the deep-freeze building have a span width of 45 m. Together with the client, the layout of the building was discussed. Calculations and optimizations were carried out with SCIA Engineer and formed the base for the drawings. These were carried out in-house per phase, which promoted the speed for implementation. SCIA Engineer was an extremely great help and the Engineering Report was the key in our discussions to realise the project.
