140 ARCHITECT n/a OWNER n/a GENERAL CONTRACTOR n/a CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 07/2019 - 12/2019 A new Cooling Water Pipeline is constructed for a new purification facility in the Rotterdam region. Commissioned by the company responsible for the piping design, Maters en De Koning engineered the civil structures consisting of a pipe bridge including foundations, sleepers and several types of pipe supports. Both piping and structures are modelled in SCIA Engineer. To secure a correct interaction between the piping and structures (pipe supports) the results are calibrated by a piping engineer with a piping model. After this calibration, changes in position, type and number of pipe supports could be done by the structural engineer with a minimum of reconciliation with the piping engineer. For the design of the pipe bridge, beam elements were used with only-tension members for wind bracing. The foundations of the bridge and the sleeper were modelled with plate elements. In the overall model, the pipe supports are modelled with beam elements clamped to the pipe and with non-linear functions for the interface with the structural components. For the check of the steel members of the pipe bridge the Steel Module was used. The pipe supports are modelled with plate elements in a separate 3D-model. For the check of the pipe supports the maximum equivalent stress (sigE) was compared to the allowable yield stress of the plate material.
