Furthermore, the practical use and accessibility of operational space at ground and above ground levels had to be optimised during the design of the model. For this project we also took advantage of the smart and time-saving functionalities that SCIA Engineer provides for structural modelling: load panels, 3D climatic load generators according to Eurocode (wind and snow), non-linear static calculation with tension-only beams and dwg-import. The export of IFC- models for BIM interaction with the client and third parties (clash check with piping and techniques) in an early stage of the building process was much appreciated. Once completed, the model proved very useful for performing the necessary EC3 steel and stability checks, follow-up of the anticipated deformations during the installation and filling of the liquid storage tanks and for the design and calculation of steel connections.
