The transport between the production site and the warehouse runs via a 107 m long conveyor. Automated conveyors transport raw materials from the warehouse to the production site and the finished products from the production site to the warehouse. This saves around 25,000 truck movements, which results in CO2 reduction by 365 t. The entire bridge consists of a steel framework structure of 133 t. A solid concrete pillar was placed alongside the public road and a transparent steel pillar on the existing staff car park. The 3 spans that were thus obtained are 44 m, 27 m and 33.5 m respectively. The steel bridge was completely painted in white and clad with white steel sandwich panels. The windows form a continuous facade line, coming from the docking building, and vary in height to give the final structure a dynamic look. The combination of long spans and the extensive use of glass required special attention to deflections. The design of the bridge is the result of a close co- operation between the architect and the engineer. Thanks to the easy 3D-modelling and effective steel design in SCIA Engineer, a variety of types and dimensions of trusses could be compared, both in efficiency and architectural value.
