The existing floors are protected, and therefore they need to be reinforced to meet the requirements of the current codes. In addition, we propose the installation of a block of stairs made of solid steel to mark the difference between the old wooden floor and the contemporary intervention. These staircases will provide access to the floors and will also create a central support to relieve the primary structure of the wooden floors, which is, according to the current standards, largely under-sized. Keeping existing elements in place greatly complicates the project. In addition, creation of the central support means that we have to think about load distribution paths. This will involve on-site welding of steel plates. The exact dimensioning of the steel plates will reduce the total weight, and thus optimise the load. Moreover, it will also reduce the amount of material that must be transported to the site. SCIA Engineer allowed us to optimise the structure, ensuring that no instability phenomenon will threaten the structure. SPECIAL PROJECTS 4
