The project includes a transformation of three existing concrete silos. The silos previously formed a part of a water treatment plant and they should be now used for various purposes. The silos have the diameter of approximately 21 m and the height of approximately 21 m. The transformation includes also realization of a 3-storey 20 m high structure on top of each silo, construction of different levels within the silos and adding various openings in the walls of the silos. The narrow neck on the top in combination with the restriction of the capacity of piles resulted in a complex steel structure supported by the six thicker parts of each silo. The structural analysis was carried out in a close contact with the steel supplier. Its point of view on details and maximum size of the prefabricated parts, which will be assembled on site, was taken into account. Given the long delivery times, it was necessary to finalize the model of the steel structure at an early design stage. SCIA Engineer was used to perform unity checks of the complete steel structure for various non-linear combinations. Afterwards, the steel supplier used the model to analyse the steel details.
