SCIA User Contest 2020 Flipping Book

186 An ingenious setting for the World Cup... More than 40,000 spectators will be able to watch 2022 FIFA World Cup matches at the new Al Wakrah Stadium, 20 km south of Doha. In this state-of-the-art stadium with the appearance of a futuristic boat hull, visitors will be provided with everything they need: parking space, shopping malls, arrival and departure areas for shuttle service... However, the life of this little gem will not end after 2022. The design allows for flexible use of the infrastructure even after the World Cup, such as the possibility to disassemble the upper bleachers. The plans proposed by the original design office involved relatively high implementation costs. At the customer’s request, Six Construct sought a solution to reduce them. The engineers of the BESIX Group with their partners from M/s Midmac and M/s Porr who were in charge of the study of the project had the idea of compressing the stadium to reduce its footprint on the ground. This new design has saved more than 30% of the original budget. This reduction has been achieved even despite the need to rethink the layout of the interior space and adapt the already completed foundations. SC&D carried out all stability studies of cassette dressings, support structures for this cladding and stability analysis of secondary steel structures.
