187 GAS STATION ROOF Valongo , Por tugal In order to enlarge the roof area of the Alfena Gas Station in Valongo, Portugal, and to connect the existing roofs between the dispensing area and the store, we designed a new steel roof structure supported by the existing steel elements. The two main objectives of the design were the minimum weight of the steel structure and simple connection details. The main challenge was the verification of the existing structures and matching the existing structures with the new one. SCIA Engineer was used for the design and structural analysis according to the Eurocodes including the checks of cold-formed cross-sections according to Eurocode 3. For the definition of loads, load panels with the tributary area load transfer method were used. The structural model was exported to IFC to support coordination meetings and also to REVIT to provide a base for subsequent structural detailing and drafting.
