190 The structure, according to the architects, represents a huge open wooden barrel over the green mountains of Belo Horizonte. Built on an industrial shed, the structure gives access to a large beer centre, which combines a restaurant, shop, office, cellar and the factory itself of one of the main and most awarded beers in Brazil. The challenge was to follow the curved lines proposed for the roof while maintaining slimness and securing the entire wood-lined sealing system. All this placed on top of a tower for stairs and elevators to the shed level which is about 10 m below the street. This architectural project and its authors have been recognized and awarded worldwide. 3D modelling capabilities of SCIA Engineer made it much easier to create elements with a complex geometry such as curved beams. Using DWG model imported from the architect, with just a few clicks we got the expected geometry. The representation of the results of the structural analysis in 3D is also very helpful in understanding the behaviour of the structure and in deciding the sizes of individual elements. SCIA Engineer brought the ease of 3D modelling, typical for the most advanced CAD software, into the powerful analysis and sizing tool. SCIA Engineer has been an indispensable tool for Vista Engenharia, especially for analysis of complex plate structures, non-linear analysis and smart mesh refinement.
