Hana Gattermayerova Gabčíkova 15, 182 00 Praha 8 (CZ) www.p-h-a.cz The extension and a new building of the oldest glass making school in Europe, located in Kamenicky Senov, is designed as a steel structure with concrete basement and pile foundations. The architect worked with traditional materials like steel, glass, concrete and stone surfaces. The 3-storey building is situated in an “L” shaped backyard with dimensions 15 x 18 m and the height of 12.5 m. The whole structure was calculated using a complete 3D-model. Export from SCIA Engineer to Tekla and back was used for fast steel check and easy implementation of architectural changes in the manufacture-documentation stage. BIM, namely the open IFC format, was used to cooperate between Tekla and Allplan and also for modelling of concrete structures. The bill of material for steel members calculated in SCIA Engineer was the first input for the preliminary offer presented to the contractor. The total price of the structure, which was given by a public contract with region subsidies, was limited. SCIA Engineer and Tekla software helped optimise the structure and thus meet this limit.
