41 ARCHITECT B2Ai OWNER Car Plan nv GENERAL CONTRACTOR Myldes CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 03/2017 - 10/2018 The project includes a showroom, offices, maintainance and repair rooms and rooms to store and expose premium selected cars for the BMW and MINI concession in Roeselare (Belgium). The roofs of the buildings are designed to store cars. Therefore, all floor levels from basement to roof had to be accessible for cars. All floor levels are connected through a driveway located at the backside of the building. The building has a length of 150 m and a width of 27 m. It is located along the ring road of Roeselare, opposite to the existing showroom where new BMW-cars are on display. On the owners demand we had to work with precast concrete as much as possible. The spans of the floors and beams are high. The combination of inside and outside spaces, combined with floors at different levels, made it a complex structure. The number of columns had to be minimised. The structure had to be self-standing during the whole construction period. As the building site is long and narrow, temporary supports would have obstructed the access of working teams and machinery. The whole structure was modelled in SCIA Engineer to determine sections of structural elements and reinforcement requirements for the consecutive stages of the construction process. Concrete 1D and 2D elements were combined with a 3D steel-structure. The construction contained many details (such as hidden connections), on which the general contractor gave his input to match with the precast and assembly process.
