The eye-catcher of the project is a large canopy roof in the corner situated between two symmetrical buildings. The canopy roof has the surface of 350 m² and is supported in the middle by a laminated beam with the length of 35 m. This large central beam is supported by two columns of variable cross-section and held in place by a roof supporting-structure mounted on two adjacent buildings, which needed additional bracing to transfer the horizontal forces from the canopy roof. This resulted in a complex three-dimensional load distribution and SCIA Engineer was essential in understanding the load transfer and determining the necessary steel and laminated cross-sections . Once the model was created and understood, SCIA Engineer was used to carry out a complete code check for all members and to calculate all connections.
