45 ARCHITECT Consortium VER - GD Architectes BUNQ OWNER CIGUE - CODHA - SCHG - CIEPP - FVGLS GENERAL CONTRACTOR Losinger Marazzi SA CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 01/2017 - 10/2022 Being the largest of several buildings in this new district, this new nine-storey building, 90 m wide and 140 m long, will house nearly 550 apartments of various sizes, a basement car park and shops on the ground floor. As the building is financed by five different investors, the superstructure is separated to five distinct sections using movement joints, which have been sized for seismic requirements. Different requirements resulting from the variety of uses and investors has driven the structural development, and different structural grids presented numerous structural challenges. The density of the residential units had an impact on the arrangement of structural elements and required good understanding of the complex load paths. SCIA Engineer enabled us to identify load paths and evaluate secondary effects associated with the numerous load transfers. Thanks to SCIA Engineer we also could evaluate torsional effects resulting from horizontal, both wind and seismic, loading on the asymmetric towers, and adapt the structure accordingly. The flexibility of meshing and various analysis options within the programme meant that this large and complex building did not result in a model which was overly heavy.
