46 BUILDINGS 1 Christchurch URC is a new church building in East London, providing a large worship / multi-purpose space with support spaces for offices, meetings and kitchens. The building is a two-storey steel framed structure utilising Slimflor beams at first floor supporting concrete composite metal deck flooring. The roof over the main auditorium consists of a series of radial trusses, spanning between outer inclined columns and a central curved reinforced wall. Building stability is provided by the curved reinforced concrete wall and steel braced panels within the external walls. With a 3D SCIA Engineer model, the lateral loading on the unusual building shape and non-symmetrical location of lateral stability elements could be easily evaluated. The SCIA Engineer output was used to design the curved reinforced concrete wall and the roof trusses, and to evaluate foundation loads, which are typically pad foundations. SCIA Engineer was also used to help evaluate the dynamic performance of the balcony to the worship space with the CADS Footfall Analysis, which linked to a SCIA Engineer dynamic analysis model.
