47 BUILDINGS 1 Building T is the first new building in the context of a masterplan for the “Schoonmeersen” Campus. On the inside, two big round atriums provide a visual connection between the floors. Vertical and horizontal curvature on the atrium edges provides a smooth transition between the floors. On the outside, a big entrance arch acts as an inviting element which directs people from the plaza outside to the interior of the building. The building consists of a reinforced concrete structure with post-tensioned concrete floors for the classroom and atrium areas. The external corridors and the structure supporting horizontal facade elements are constructed as a steel framework. The loads from the corridor steelwork structure are transmitted to the concrete structure only as axial forces, simplifying the joint between both structures. Despite the fact that the engineering model consists of over 2600 elements, it remained well-organised and easy to use thanks to the application of layers and the nifty quick-selection tool.
