Its dimensions are approximately 65 by 125 m, with the height of 40 m. When finished, this building will be used as a place where culture and music meet in an open and accessible way. From the engineering point of view, this project is unique, as several materials are used within it. These materials are for example: steel, concrete, the combination of steel and concrete as a composite material and timber. For this project, CSM nv was the main contractor of the steel part which forms the primary construction material, together with concrete. SCIA Engineer was used to provide assembling studies. This means that ULS- and SLS-(deflection) checks were made to see if the construction was still stable and had enough capacity. If not, additional assembling steel had to be added to limit deflections and ULS-forces at certain points. As a next step, IDEA StatiCa was used to analyse connections. While manual calculations would take weeks, SCIA Engineer made it easy to quickly analyse the building . Since it is easy to import IFC-files into SCIA Engineer, a lot of modelling has been already done in advance. Afterwards, the required loads were added on elements and the ULS- and SLS-checks according to the Eurocode and national annexes were performed.
