The height is 13 storeys, 10 of which are above the ground level and the remaining ones below. The uniqueness of this project lays in the fact that the Metro line tunnels partly pass below the building. As the Qatar Rail System authorities required virtually zero impact on the tunnels, our design has to transfer all loads from the hotel to the soil below the tunnels. The second challenge is that the water table in the area is relatively high (level -2 m) and the main building foundation is at approximately -15 m, resulting in a significant uplift. Moreover, the building is being constructed in two phases. Another challenge is that in several parts of the building, large spans were required. Finally, the size of the individual structurally independent building parts was significant and temperature loading had to be applied to all slabs above the ground level. Various commercial reasons were constantly changing the design throughout the whole process. SCIA Engineer provides an extremely useful and user-friendly interface allowing the engineer to make changes easily, intuitively and visually verifiable. We managed to address successfully the complexity of the structure with the capabilities of the software.
