55 The insurance company Assuria N.V. became the first, fully Surinamese, financial institution acting abroad by opening a subsidiary in Guyana in 2012. The company is planning on broadening its services in Guyana and has therefore decided to design an entirely new building. The plans include a 5-storey building with approximately 1,365 m² of usable space. Just as its parent company in Suriname, its design was inspired by traditional Surinamese boats navigating through dangerous river rapids. Its curved design proved to be the most challenging part of the project. Furthermore, the design was done in Suriname while there were stakeholders from both Suriname and Guyana involved. Thanks to SCIA Engineer’s modelling features and advanced analysis tools these challenges were easily solved using the curved beam design tools. Because SCIA Engineer is equipped with a very powerful solver and provides results fast , it was easy to quickly estimate quantities, providing the different stakeholders with adequate information to help determine the project’s feasibility.
