It is a reinforcement concrete structure that stands on 104 steel-rail piles. The useable building area is almost 14,240 m². The original structure of this building was not well designed, and there were even some mistakes in the calculation. Because of that, the construction was stopped once this has been discovered. SESAN Engenharia was then contracted to evaluate the project and propose repairs and reinforcement in the two first floors and foundations which were already built, and also optimise and re-design the whole structure above the second floor. The main challenge was to consider the existing reinforcements in the concrete structure and check if they were sufficient for the new combinations of loads. The global weight of the building was reduced by 20% using the SCIA Engineer software due to its capability to place the rebars in the correct position and check all the internal forces (check-response) together. SCIA Engineer provided a clear overview of the behaviour of the structure and it was also used to verify in detail the cross-sections using complex finite-elements analysis like non-linear analysis, stability analysis, cracks and time-dependent behaviour. 6000 m² 6000 m² 200 279 267 462
