The project represents the most valuable investment of Derince municipality. The structure measures 37 x 20 m and its height is approximately 36 m. It is a nine-storey building with slabs made as composite decks. As this region is windy and located in the 1st earthquake zone of the Turkish seismic hazard map, it was necessary, in addition to vertical loads, to consider properly also lateral loading caused by the wind and seismicity. Therefore, we have used truss frames and diagrids. The most difficult part of this project was modelling of the steel structure because of its complex shape. The steel structure is put on the concrete foundation and basement floor. The shape of the steel structure was inspired by a sail. A diagrid system was used to create and hold this shape. There is also a 30 x 20 m truss floor for wedding hall situated between the basement floor and the sail floors. Thanks to the SCIA Engineer’s CAD capabilities we have easily created our model. After the calculation we also, very easily, performed AISC steel code checks and external connection design. SCIA Engineer‘s Engineering Report documentation tool was used for the presentation of the project. SCIA Engineer is the best “co-worker” for our daily work as well as signature projects.
