The south deck supports 2 lanes of the Italy-to-Nice carriageway. Its total width is 10.22 m, and the total length is 517.40 m divided to 11 spans. The deck is a continuous prestressed concrete single-box girder supported by several reinforced concrete piers. The repair works consisted of implementing some post-tension in the form of four 22T15S cables (2 more are planned in a future phase) to provide a sufficient normal stress for different sections of the structure. Theses cables required steel diverters (both on piers and inside spans) to be anchored within the box girder. In order to design the two types of diverters and their anchors, several complete plate models have been made. They consist of several plates and tubes crossing each other in different directions. That geometrical complexity has not been a big issue thanks to the SCIA Engineer’s tools for modelling of plates and shells that are quite easy to use. Moreover, we needed a non-linear calculation so that we could use non-linear supports (nodal and surface) in order to quantify the stress level in the anchor plates. This non-linear calculation allowed us to optimise the anchor plate stiffness, which wouldn’t have been possible with a standard joint calculation software. CIVIL STRUCTURES 2
