94 The concrete bridge at Eigenbilzen is an integral bridge with a span of 23 m. It is located at Eigenbilzen in Belgium. On the left and right bank of the Albert Canal, it provides the approach bridges for the steel arch bridge across the canal. The integral bridge is connected to the abutment and its foundation piles on one side and to the piers of the main bridge. Due to its high self-weight, the bridge is cast in situ. There are important bending moments towards the abutment and the piers. The bridge has two traffic lanes and two bicycle lanes. The overall width of the bridge is 16 m. Temperature, creep and shrinkage loads introduce forces and deformations on the structure due to the rigid connection of the bridge with its foundations. All these effects, together with all the possible load cases were managed in one SCIA Engineer model. The internal forces were used to evaluate the reinforcement of the concrete elements. The option of concrete design in SCIA Engineer was used as well, to have a quick evaluation of the manual calculations. The overall idea is that it provides a good and quick evaluation of the needed reinforcement in different concrete elements. It is a very helpful tool in the design of concrete elements .
