96 ARCHITECT Infrabel SA OWNER Infrabel SA GENERAL CONTRACTOR Infrabel SA CONSTRUCTION PERIOD 09/2018 - 01/2019 This new prestressed footbridge replaces a damaged footbridge located in Brussels above the railway line linking the European district with the airport. The new bridge is 1 m high, 4 m wide and 35 m long. The thickness of the webs and flanges is between 5 and 10 cm! The use of ultra-high strength concrete with fibres allowed us to have thin sections and significantly reduce the weight of the structure. The fibres have also replaced most of the reinforcement. The greatest challenge of this project was the lack of any standard for this type of concrete. A 1:1 scale test element was produced to define more precisely the real parameters of this ultra-high strength concrete. Good cooperation with Ergon, CSTC, SECO made this project a reality. SCIA Engineer was helpful in evaluating 1D and 2D behaviour of the structure. We also used SCIA Engineer to control and calculate the dynamic behaviour of the structure.
