L'incendie de l'orphelinat se répandit et détruisit la couverture et la charpente du couvent. Il fut décidé: • la réalisation de 2 planchers en béton permettant d'assurer la stabilité du bâtiment. • de mettre à sec l'ensemble en assurant ainsi sa pérennité. Le principe de la charpente en bois (fermes à entrait, pannes et chevrons) a été abandonné au profit d'une charpente originale en acier. L'ensemble fut préalablement modélisé en 3D qui a permis au Maître de l'Ouvrage d'apprécier le résultat final et de suivre la démarche audacieuse de l'architecte. Cette conception faisant appel aux techniques modernes de construction a permis de dégager un espace monumental et parfaitement éclairé (de manière zénithale) par des verrières de toiture en cascade.
