1 Foreword - Nemetschek Engineering User Contest The Nemetschek Engineering Contest 2009 received great feedback: more than 120 projects were submitted to the contest jury, proving their effectiveness in using one or more software solutions of the Nemetschek Engineering Group. The participants come from 14 countries all over Europe and the Middle East. The projects are built worldwide, e.g. in Australia, India, United Arab Emirates, Eastern and Western Europe. The projects assembled in this book illustrate the great engineering skills of our customers in a large variety of fields: housing, buildings, industrial structures, infrastructure, towers, spectacular roofs and prefabricated constructions. The engineering science is evolving rapidly: the efficiency of designing and detailing structures is increasing tremendously even though higher constraints are imposed by new building codes and safety regulations. This is also possible thanks to the help of innovative tools, that engineers, detailers and fabricators are increasingly adopting. The Nemetschek software solutions cover the whole spectrum of structural engineering design and detailing: from member design and detailing up to 3D BIM (Building Information Modelling). The Nemetschek Engineering User Contest book illustrates the state-of-the-art, how structures are planned today.
