37 Project information Short project description Nemetschek Engineering User Contest 2011 - Category 1: Buildings Category 1: Buildings 1 Crematorium Welkenraedt, Belgium The funeral centre of Liege decided to build a new crematorium in Welkenraedt. This 3.000 m² large construction consists in two concrete buildings. The major walls are made of two reinforced concrete shells that are separated by a cellulose insulation layer. These thick walls give an impression of massiveness as desired by the author of the project. Both buildings are covered by a multifaceted roof with a glued laminated timber structure. This geometrical complicated wood structure and its interaction with the concrete structure could not be studied without using the 3D design software Scia Engineer.
