The firm’s portfolio includes general planning, project management, architecture, 3D-visualisation, static analysis, building services, sustainability – DGNB/ÖGNIcertification, construction preparation and site supervision. The majority of the projects carried out have been in Central Europe, but some have also been in South-Eastern Europe as well as in the Middle East. The project consists of seven different buildings ranging from 5 to 10 floors, which are connected by a common underground parking floor. The whole building design was carried out bearing in mind the properties of reinforced concrete structures. The main reason for using SCIA Engineer was its great capabilities for 3D simulation of earthquake actions according to EC8. In addition, its user-friendly interface helped to convert the architectural plans (*.dwg) into a consistent analytical model. The 3D analytical models were used to determine the total load reactions for beams, columns, slabs and walls in the preliminary structural design stage; as well as examining the resistance behaviour against several worst case scenarios. The goal of the project was to create an accurate predesign in order to optimise the initial designs, reaching an economic solution. The 3D-analysis permitted an easy understanding of load transmission along the buildings, distinguishing the critical areas and optimising them. After this positive experience and an excellent BIM-SCIA Engineer interaction, data exchange for upcoming projects will be performed using BIM-tools integrated in SCIA Engineer.
