116 This remarkable project is situated in a prime location at the heart of our capital, adjacent to the Brussels-Charleroi canal. It features a rectangular single-pitched roof atop a parallelogram-shaped base, with the roof soaring to a height of over 15 m and the base covering approximately 780 m². The aesthetic significance of the structure necessitates the extensive use of circular hollow sections (CHS). In the past, calculating or simulating the combination of CHS, rigid connections, eccentricities, and stringent visual requirements would have been impractical. Additionally, accurately estimating the interaction between the inner and outer structures during harsh weather conditions like storms would have posed challenges with manual calculations. SCIA Engineer provided a solution to overcome these obstacles. Through excellent collaboration with IDEA StatiCa, simulations of complex connections became feasible, leading to relatively easy resolution of most issues.
