SCIA User Contest 2023

118 The project involves constructing a maintenance hall for CFL rolling stock at the Centre de Remisage et de Maintenance in Luxembourg. The hall has dimensions of 93 m length, 18 m width, and 12 m height, covering an area of 1,675 m². Beneath the hall, a watertight concrete firewater retention tank with a capacity of 400 m³ is installed to store water for the entire site. Inside the hall, there are 3 elevated working platforms, a 5-tonne overhead crane, and two elevated tracks. The main structure comprises 14 frames made of S355 grade steel, anchored in sleeve foundations and spaced at 7.1 m intervals along the longitudinal direction. SCIA Engineer was utilized from the predesign phase to model the entire structure and automatically generate wind load cases based on Eurocode 1991-1-4, including the Luxembourg national annex. Dynamic load cases, such as the crane and moving trains, were considered using load model “LM 71”. All structural elements, including frames, bolted and welded connections, elevated tracks, and foundation reinforcements, were calculated using SCIA Engineer. The 3D model was seamlessly integrated with Revit to produce comprehensive plans and visualizations for the project.
