122 The enormous, Ghent-based plant of ArcelorMittal recycles waste gases from the steel production process into bio-ethanol. This is an important part of ArcelorMittal’s climate plan for 2030. Multi engineering made a model of the foundation plates, including supports for all pile foundations, completely for 3 zones. For 11 other zones, Multi engineering performed a so-called ‘after-calculation’, based on the detail engineering from the Engineering Department of ArcelorMittal Ghent. This means checking whether these zones are okay for the final/definitive loads and making of the calculation notes. For one zone, the steel model of the upper structure, made by ArcelorMittal, was combined with the concrete foundation model. In other models, the loads coming from the upper structure were entered via Excel input. The calculation of the concrete foundation slabs was completely executed in SCIA Engineer. Based on the obtained results, the reinforcement design and the dimensions of the concrete slabs could be optimized.
