123 AERATION TANK Ponta Grossa, Brazil The Aeration Tank plays a vital role in sewage treatment, comprising two adjacent rectangular modules with impressive dimensions. The structure is secured by top T-section beams, effectively locking it in place. Two expansion joints are integrated along the length of the tank, and the bottom slab is connected through transfer bars. Given the substantial dimensions of the tank and the complex loading conditions, SCIA Engineer played a crucial role in ensuring structural stability. The software enabled engineers to find the optimal balance against the significant uplift thrust experienced by the tank while mitigating excessive deformations under various load combinations. The tank is supported by a direct foundation and faces internal water pressure (sewage), external soil loading, and challenges posed by a high-water table. To enhance stability, concrete channels filled with high-density material were implemented around the joints of the bottom slab, and anchorage points with root piles were strategically placed to resist pulling forces, thereby relieving compression loads on the soil. SCIA Engineer’s capabilities proved essential in determining the most suitable design solution for the Aeration Tank, guaranteeing its resilience and performance in the demanding operational environment of sewage treatment.
