SCIA User Contest 2023

127 BLE Willebroek, Belgium This project involves the construction of an industrial building combined with an office building, each with distinct characteristics. The workhouse required structural support for specific openings, while the office building had to meet architectural demands, including a tree-like support structure in the facade. SCIA Engineer played a key role in this project, utilizing its classic and useful functionalities for structural modelling. Load panels, 3D climatic load generators based on Eurocode (wind and snow), nonlinear static calculations with tensiononly beams, and DWG import were employed. The export of IFC models facilitated BIM interaction with the client and third parties, enabling clash checks with piping and other technical aspects, ultimately ensuring the building was completed within the required timeline. Two crucial elements stood out in this building project. Firstly, swift checks were performed on beam perforations for piping. Secondly, an off-centre framework was quickly added to support the walls in the large hall, necessitating torsion checks. SCIA Engineer’s capabilities and efficient workflows contributed to addressing these specific requirements effectively.
