154 The bronze statue, known as “Levitace” or “Levitace 2010,” stands at a height of 2 m and weighs approximately 24kN. It is prominently located in front of the Ostrava-Svinov railway station in the Czech Republic on Dr. Braun Square. Sculptor David Moješčík created the statue, with Pavel Malina and Petra Ševcůj contributing to the design of the pedestal. In 2009, an initiative was taken to enhance the surrounding area of the bus station and the renowned Svinov railway station. As part of this effort, a public competition was held to select a sculpture that would complement the site. The sculpture, resembling a person in a meditative pose, appears to levitate above the ground, supported only by three points of contact. The matte black surface of the statue adds to its distinctive presence within the forecourt space. To ensure structural integrity, the statue’s design incorporates calculations using shell elements, particularly at the three support points. The static calculation revealed the need for internal reinforcement at these points. The ability to import the statue’s shape from ACAD (AutoCAD) proved helpful during the design process. Notably, the statue has been in service for 13 years without encountering any issues, reflecting its durability and successful implementation in the challenging environment of the forecourt space.
