169 TRANSFO FACADE BUILDING Zwevegem, Belgium The restored boiler house, now an event center, features a new glass facade. It serves as a climate-preserving bell jar, enclosing a hall with a steel construction and thin 9 cm brickwork. The 26.8 m high, 24.0 m wide, and 18.7 m deep facade consists of a steel structure with glass modules (165 cm x 400 cm). Cantilevered fins and box sections form an eye-catching goggle-shaped cornice, acting as the main structure. Steel ties suspend glass modules for a slim, buckling-free design. Anchoring ensures horizontal stability. A substructure of steel beams and trusses inside the building handles the facade’s strain. New elements integrate into the existing brick facade, blending old and new. A cantilevering system connects to main columns, placed with precision. SCIA Engineer software aids modelling and analysis, with custom cross sections and second-order calculations. Specific details guarantee proper function. Impact analysis and submodels address interventions. SCIA Engineer verifies the all-steel structure. ARCHITECT Coussée-Goris-Huyghe architecten i.c.w.
