172 In Gorinchem, a striking advertising mast now stands in the parking lot of Hotel Gorinchem. The city government required that the mast feature a real knot as a symbol of the city’s connection to the junction of highways A27 and A15, as well as to the newly renovated Hotel Gorinchem. To highlight the location’s significance at the Gorinchem interchange, a steel knot has been incorporated directly beneath the advertising section of the mast. The knot serves as a powerful visual reminder of the area’s importance and helps to make the mast a true standout. Designing a mast in SCIA Engineer presents several challenges. These include ensuring the mast isn’t too slender, accounting for dynamic behavior, and modelling the impact of springs in concrete pile foundations. Additionally, accurately modelling the behavior of the node at the top of the mast is crucial for overall stability and safety.
