175 RECONSTRUCTION OF A HISTORICAL BUILDING Heidelberg, Germany Ryklin STATIK was consulted for the reconstruction of a private historical building from the 19th century near the Heidelberg Rail station. The big challenge was to get the old building inside SCIA Engineer. Especially the timber roof structure had to be precisely measured. Due to the demand to get more living space with a lot of additional dormer windows, the load-bearing system had to be changed. This means the removal of many supporting elements with simultaneous reinforcement of the remaining elements. Parts of the load-bearing beams of the timber floors became new support columns and had to be reinforced too. The biggest challenge was connecting the new balconies with the existing floors through the thick walls using Schöck insulation parts in four different ways. With SCIA Engineer it was possible to create the whole building with surroundings, soil conditions and all appropriate details thanks to a DWG/IFC template. Also, the planning was checked, adjusted and confirmed by the client via 3D-PDF-files. With the fixed model it was easy to react to all changes, make precise calculations and perform design compliant with appropriate codes, prepare clear and flexible reports with overviews, elevations, and equired execution detailed drawings.
