176 The project deals with a steel structure for roofing and cladding of a bottom station of a ropeway (RW). The architectural design includes a roof with four different planes with slopes varying from 3° to 50° and a six-sided floor plan with external dimensions of 27 x 40 m. Only two attic edges out of six are at the same level and the height of the building rises from 6.4 to 11.3 m. The grid of columns is based on the lower two-story concrete structure. The columns support trusses, the geometry of which is determined by the shape of the roof (from above) and by the space required for the installation and operation of RW (from below). The building is located at an altitude of 1,120 m. Climatic loads on the structure are extreme, e.g. the design snow load is 7.2 kN/m². The geometry of the structure changed so significantly during the process that the main model had to be created three times. Moreover, additional requirements were added during the works - suspended RW depot and crane runway. Iterative analysis made it possible to find the right locations for expansion joints that are needed to accommodate deformations caused by temperature changes. Rapid calculations and steel code checks in SCIA Engineer enabled an immediate verification of technologists’ requirements, civil engineers’ ideas and cladding suppliers’ innovations.
