177 COVERED AWNING GOLF COURSE Wachtebeke, Belgium The project involves the construction of an awning that covers a golf course, measuring 6 by 30 m with a varying height of 3 to 4 m. The engineering approach for this awning differs from typical projects due to the presence of columns with different angles. To ensure stability, the columns needed to be securely anchored to the foundation soles. Additionally, since the columns are exposed to an outdoor environment, they require hot dip galvanization, necessitating torqueresistant connections through bolt connections. Maintaining internal balance was crucial given the varying angles of the columns. In SCIA Engineer, the team conducted an analysis of the construction in two phases. Initially, they treated each segment as a single-fold steel portico. Subsequently, they combined the different porticos into a single model to assess their collective performance and enable comparisons. This process allowed them to make adjustments to certain locations and angles of the columns. SCIA Engineer played a crucial role in conducting various technical checks on the steel structure, ensuring its integrity and reliability.
