34 The extension of the Philharmonie will be a combination of steel and reinforced concrete construction. The ground floor will accommodate a restaurant and technical rooms, while a distribution slab will be installed on the existing parking slab to distribute the load of the new steel frame structure. A multipurpose room will be situated on the first level, and a roof with varying levels will be created using curved steel beams and sandwich panels for the roof covering. To accommodate the necessary height for the planned technical networks beneath the ground floor level, a raised double floor will be employed. The elevator shaft can be built in the void beneath the ground floor, allowing for local reductions in the thickness of the distribution slab. The first level will feature a concrete floor fixed with Geilinger column types. The desired architectural shape of the roof will be achieved using curved steel beams. The stability of the new construction will be ensured through bracing and specific connections with the existing building, and openings will be created in the existing facade to provide access to the new structure. Steel beams will be positioned at the projected openings to support the loads of the upper panels. EXTENSION PHILHARMONIE Luxembourg NOMINEE “The special shape and the connection to the existing building, especially considering the thermal and acoustic requirements, was a great challenge!”
