36 The building sits on top of the inclined roof of the underground car park, comprising two stories with a total built area of 1563 m², including an 800 m² ground floor. The primary task involved modelling the complex geometry, combining reinforced concrete, steel, and structural glass, to analyze their behavior and interaction under seismic loads. Initially, the structural glass elements were modeled as 1D elements to distribute forces and displacements accurately. Subsequently, a detailed 2D shell model was used to assess worst-case scenarios, considering spider connections and glass-steel interaction, identifying stress concentrators for a safe and cost-effective design. SCIA Engineer’s design modules were employed to check all structural elements, including reinforced concrete, steel, and structural glass. The structural glass design adhered to prEN16612 standards, supported by SCIA Engineer’s integrated structural glass addon. SCIA Engineer was chosen for its BIM certification, allowing seamless import and alignment of complex geometries. It also facilitated multi-material design for concrete, steel, and glass, making it the ideal choice for the project. URBAN SYMBOL ON TOP OF EXISTING MULTI-STORY UNDERGROUND PARKING Oradea, Romania NOMINEE “Allplan was an essential tool to model the real 3D structure on which the new building was positioned. The BIM model from Allplan was then sent and aligned in SCIA Engineer using BIM Toolbox tools and the steel and glass structure was modelled on top of the concrete infrastructure.”
