40 The upcoming building will serve as a service building for Infrabel, the manager and operator of the Belgian railway network, situated adjacent to Ghent’s main train station, Gent Sint-Pieters. It will have dimensions of 35 m (height) x 57 m (length) x 32 m (depth). The project’s significant challenge lies in the extensive cantilevers. Levels +4 and +5 will have 5.4 m cantilevers, while levels +6 and +7 will extend to 8.1 m. Additionally, the end facade will cantilever in two directions. Modelling the cooperation between concrete and steel posed the biggest challenge in SCIA Engineer. As the building will be constructed on an existing car park, limiting the loads to permissible values was crucial. SCIA Engineer proved to be the ideal software for modelling the entire building structure. It facilitated the consideration of all forces and deformations within the cores, slabs, and Vierendeel truss.
