SCIA User Contest 2023

42 B2Ai architects won the Design & Build competition for a new municipal school in Kuurne. Collaborating with Alheembouw, Bureau De Fonseca, and Stefaan Thiers, they created a sustainable and future-oriented school. The cross-shaped building integrates efficiently and maximizes the learning experience. With flexible spaces and minimal columns, a steel structure was chosen, supported by central concrete walls. SCIA Engineer aided in modeling and dimensioning the structure. The new school building has been meticulously designed to address location and circulation challenges with a practical, attainable, and high-quality approach that serves as the optimal solution for both the school and its environment. The innovative cross-shaped design was conceived to seamlessly integrate functionality. This plan prioritizes a functional layout while aiming to enhance the overall experience for students, educators, and visitors alike. To ensure the school building stands out as a recognizable landmark, its architectural structure features a modern and straightforward design language, creating a contemporary aesthetic.
