61 THE PULSE Amsterdam, Netherlands The Pulse of Amsterdam is a high-end circular building that connects the worlds of living and working. It consists of two towers of 80 and 90 metres in height, a connecting plinth and the first urban forest at height. With residences, offices, a cinema and restaurants, it will become a new vibrant part of the city. Multiple studies with SCIA Engineer were performed to obtain a complete structural design of the building. A high-level SCIA Engineer model of the office building was created to optimize the size and wall thickness of the core due to wind loads. A complete SCIA Engineer model was then built to determine the load path through all the different transitions in the building, allowing Van Rossum to make a slender structural design. Such an elaborate SCIA Engineer model gives the possibility to account for the effects of different stiffnesses of the foundation as well as the different structural designs of the towers and further incorporate them into the global behaviour of the building. The results were used to calculate the structural steel and reinforcement in the concrete.
